1800 hours of crocheting, 2021-2023
‘1800 hours of crocheting’ is the most recent work by Barbara Broekman (1955). Normally she has her gigantic works carried out by experienced craftsmen. During Corona she felt like making something herself again. Without a predetermined goal, Broekman bought a large amount of different yarns and crocheted one string from each yarn. After months of work, several tables in her studio were covered in colored stripes. When she decided to hang them, Broekman intuitively sorted them by color. In three year’s time, four hundred stripes passed through her fingers. The rug is a printed version of a detail of the work.
