Proud To Be Soft in MOYA (Museum of Modern Art)

From April 16th until september 24th 2023 you can immerse yourself in the old characteristic factory sheds of the MOYA museum with the metres-long colorful and distinct textile artworks of Barbara Broekman.  As a forerunner in textile art, Broekman has acquired international recognition.  Her work focuses on universal themes such as womanhood and loss. For this, Broekman used both old school textile processing techniques and state of the art weaving machines. Key pieces from Barbara Broekman's oeuvre combine wonderfully with the rugged environment.
On view from 16-04-2023 till 25-09-2023

Museum Henriette Polak, Alle dagen kunst, kunst in opdracht

Beside autonomous work, many artists create commissioned work as well. Alle dagen kunst, kunst in opdracht shows the important themes for artists while working on a commission: the relation with the client, the balance between autonomous and commissioned work and social relevance and ideology. The exhibition shows work of Mari Andriessen, Herman Berserik, Jeanne Bieruma Oosting and many others. Barbara, being the only contemporary artist in the exhibition, submitted gouaches, designs and final work from the commission she did for the Palace of Justice in Amsterdam.
On view from 12-10-2019 till 09-02-2020

University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Law

In 2017, Barbara created a spectacular work for the new Faculty of Law of the Amsterdam University. Since the launch of the work, many visitors asked questions about the figures in the canvas: who are they, and what do they mean?
As part of an elective course devoted especially to this artwork, students enrolled in the Law and Art History programmes of the Amsterdam University set out to catalogue the depicted figures. Who are they and what do they symbolise in terms of both art history and the development of the law? The result is an inspiring website with background information on the more than 300 figures and artists in the work, ranging from Moses and Napoleon to Rembrandt and Klimt.
